Gruissan Village?

Gruissan Village is a Circulade, ie a typical Languedoc village, organized in a circular fashion around a church and a castle. Moreover, this is half Circulade a pond surrounded by ocean, paradise for birds.

At its center are a church of the fifteenth century e over the ruins of the castle (X e) and tower Barbarossa (XIII e), which became an emblem of the station. And around these buildings, roll formed small streets of terraced houses and terraced (traditionally ocher, red roofs and colorful shutters), intersected by other streets cross.

Gruissan Village Then and Now

Formerly Gruissan Village was only turned to traditional fisheries, the exploitation of saline and vines.

Nowadays, these activities continue. The number of fishermen has declined, but the small traditional fishing port, situated on the doorstep the village still exists. The exploitation of sea salt continues and the industry grapevine has even developed to quality, as generally the wines of Languedoc (AOC obtained in 1985). Gruissan Village also turned to the arts, culture and tourism, and has a local life more and more animated over time, with many small shops, a market three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning), a small theater, etc.. , And this throughout the year.

In short, Gruissan Village is one of the three pillars of the station Gruissan, the other two being the adjacent districts Gruissant of Port (port) and Gruissan Beach, also said district Cottages, where Charles Trenet liked to come and was turned 37 ° 2 le matin Jean-Jacques Beinex. But there are also neighborhoods Mateille, the Ayguades, etc.. Because Gruissan is a large town, where nature has its place.
